While in the waiting period for PW,my attention was drawn to this game:
http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/index.htmlIt's an ASCII-graphics game lke Nethack (graphical tileset optional),but apparently has immense depth & complexity, sort of like a cross between RTS' Settlers/Civ,Diablo and Morrowind? Reading the forums just amazed me of how much was in the game.
You basically play as a group of dwarves to start out with their starting wagon, and your initial aim is to build & expand your fortress & gain wealth/power. But there's no real aim,you can go on forever. You can gain more people to help you,and the world is randomly generated at the beginning.
But if you lose all your dwarves, you can make another dwarf posse and the previous fort will REMAIN on the world.
Learning curve is quite steep, but it's supposed to be addictive after that considering you can pretty much dig/build high or low anywhere.
I'm starting on a game now,I may let you know how my first 'fort' does.
To clear up any confusion for those wishing to play:
Fortress Mode is the RTS-style of controlling your group of dwarves.
Adventure Mode only involves one dwarf/elf/human in the same world,so your forts will be there from games past. More RPG-like.
EDIT: Don't make the same mistake I did! To save and exit your progress safely,ALWAYS do 'save game'. If you choose 'abandon fortress' you end the game for your current dwarf's progress, and have to start anew! ALWAYS PICK SAVE GAME TO QUIT SAFELY!
And also,I love this game! I don't know where to start.
