Hey guys, I just got into this game, and am level 11 or 12 atm I forget which. Anyway I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to skill up my crafting skills. I'm an archer, and pretty much all the archer-gear requires fur and logs, which are unfortunately 2 out of three materials that I cannot ever seem to get reliably (the 3rd being salvroot). I also am not really interested in buying zen at this moment. That being said I realize the chances of me skilling up craftsmanship, blacksmithing, tailoring, and alchemy are a pipedream, so I decided I'm just going to focus on skilling up tailoring for now. BUT.. in reality, I'm wondering if it's worth the bother. It seems as though the tailors sell the same armor that you can craft yourself, without having to go thru so much effort and materials.

Why would someone like me be interested in crafting armor instead of just buying them from tailors? Is crafted gear better somehow in some way that I didn't notice? Do I need to have crafting at level 10 or whatever to make the very best equipment that you can never get without crafting? I really don't know.

Anyway if you can answer this question I'd be very greatful, and just so I do n't bother e veryone with more questions, if anybody has any links to great crafting guides (I tried looking for some before posting this, but none really answered my questions) please link them so I can try and figure out more stuff on my own >=).

Well, for the starters, when you craft something, it's almost always better than anything you will get from the NPC/monster drops.
Later in the game, there are special equips that can only be crafted, so that means you will have to entrust the crafting process to someone else.
Also, should you decide to level the crafting skills later in the game, you will regret it. While it's still possible to get "natural" ingredients like wood or iron, the droprate of all monster drops decreases if you are some levels above the monster level - the higher level you get the harder for you will be to level up your crafting skills.

If you are playing multiple characters, you could concentrate on leveling the crafter skills of only one, that would make it easier/faster, since you will be getting 2x items and only using them on 1 set of skills.

thanks that helps alot.. none of the best crafted gear is bound to the character that crafts it? If so I think I'll do that if and when I make a 2nd character.

I kinda figured out on my own just before you replied one perk. I crafted myself some boots and it was a blue with 2 stars, I noticed it was much better than the ones for sale (normally when I craft something it is exactly the same as the ones for sale). It kinda suprised me too cuz it was better than it said it would be according to the craft menu thingie.

I didn't know that the best items were crafted only though, that's good to know. I got my tailoring to level 3 now.. I think it's 3.. the one that no longer requires logs and cotten thread, but requires mats that I also have to craft at the back (one of them needs silk thread I believe, I forget). After making those super boots of awsomeness I decided to try leveling my blacksmithing too to get a good bow. Unfortunately it needs heaps of mats that I don't have anymore after leveling up my tailoring >=(.

Still though I have to say the crafting system int his game seems far more rewarding, and less tedious than the one in wow.

none of the crafted items are bound to the crafter character as far as i know.
the chance to craft a normal npc item is pretty high, but the chance to get a 2star item is pretty high, too.
but there is a tiny chance to craft a 3star item - those are like godly items and will be better than anything else for a large span of levels.

you should read the various guides about crafting, there is many good info in them. just look for the guide here or in the pw-us forums
